Romanian fashion, a story in the heart of Europe

The Romanian Fashion Event, a story in the heart of Europe, follows the evolution of clothing styles in the Romanian space, between 1800-1930, wanting to highlight some specific features. Loving fides of international fashions, always in tune with fashion trends, Romanian women have combined original, local elements with European ones. With ingenuity and genuine decorative artistic sense, they adapted elements and techniques from traditional rural textile art to everyday outfits.

How ‘fashionable’ were Romanians more than a century ago?

How did Paris and Constantinople reconcile in Romanian fashion?

What about the crinoline and the caterpillar? Or the tuxedo and the shawls?

Raluca Partenie, our storyteller, is an art historian at the ‘George Oprescu’ Institute of Art History, a collector of antique clothing and co-founder of the Little Paris Museum in Bucharest.
